DPB (Dopravny Podnik Bratislava), the transport company of the Slovakian capital Bratislava, has received a grant of 24.4 million euros from the Slovakian Ministry of Transport for the procurement of 40 hydrogen buses. The “Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen” was chosen. The first four buses are to be delivered next autumn.

The buses have a fuel cell with an output of 70 kW, which gives the vehicle a range of 350 kilometres. The five hydrogen tanks are located at the front on the roof above the front axle. Each of them holds 312 litres of hydrogen, so the Urbino 12 hydrogen has 37 kilograms of hydrogen on board when fully fuelled. When refuelling, the bus takes in 6 kilograms per minute. This means that the bus, which is driven completely empty, is completely refuelled in little more than six minutes. (This clearly distinguishes the hydrogen bus from the battery bus).
