When the bus industry meets again in the German capital in April 2026, Berlin will once more be dominated by the mobility of tomorrow: BUS2BUS 2026 will open its doors on 15 and 16 April at hub27 on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.

The trade fair is considered an important platform for the European bus and mobility industry. Manufacturers, suppliers, transport companies, start-ups and representatives from politics and science are expected to attend. The focus will be on innovations in alternative drive systems, digitalisation, autonomous driving and sustainable transport concepts.

More than 50 buses of various sizes will be presented on site – many of which can also be experienced in the outdoor area. The vehicles on display are from the following manufacturers, among others:

  • Atlas
  • Anadolu Isuzu
  • BMC
  • BYD
  • Daimler Buses

  • Tremonia

Karsan and MCV will be presenting hydrogen buses, while DB Regio, Karson and Otokar will be showcasing autonomous vehicles. Test drives and demonstration runs will be available to watch and experience on the 16,000 square metre outdoor area.

A total of 130 exhibitors from 18 countries will be represented. The exhibition will be complemented by an extensive congress and stage programme with more than 120 speakers. Discussions will focus on current market trends, regulatory frameworks and technological developments that are likely to shape public transport in the coming years.

New to the programme are special formats for promoting young talent and a ‘Bus Driver Day’, which aims to raise awareness of the bus driver profession. BUS2BUS 2026 is thus focusing not only on technology and innovation, but also on the people who make everyday mobility possible.

BUS2BUS Roadshow

The BUS2BUS Roadshow finale took place in Berlin on 19 February 2026 in the form of a digital livestream event, where current market trends, regulatory conditions and future technological topics for the industry were discussed – as the official kick-off to the trade fair itself.

The discussion focused on the transformation of the bus and mobility industry – characterised by the drive system transition, digitalisation, infrastructure issues, regulatory requirements and improving economic conditions.

Kerstin Kube-Erkens, Director of BUS2BUS at Messe Berlin, presented the content of the anniversary edition and emphasised the event’s claim: ‘The industry is in the midst of transformation,’ said Kube-Erkens. At the same time, she emphasised the role of BUS2BUS as a platform for classification and exchange: ‘However, we are not only talking about distant visions and impulses, but also about what can be implemented today.’

Political framework conditions and structural challenges

Christiane Leonard, Chief Executive of the Federal Association of German Bus Companies (bdo), assessed the current framework conditions for bus companies. She said that the transport industry is particularly affected by political and economic dynamics, such as digitalisation, the switch to new drive systems and a lack of infrastructure.

‘We are living in very, very turbulent times – politically, both nationally and internationally,’ explained Leonard. With regard to the transformation of the industry, she added: ‘The transport industry is once again much more affected by these dynamics and this transformation process than other industries.’

At the same time, she pointed out the opportunities offered by buses as a mode of transport: ‘Buses simply have strategic advantages because they can react incredibly quickly and are very effective and very cost-efficient.’

Future Forum: The future as a strategic framework for action

Dr Stefan Carsten, futurist, head of the BUS2BUS Advisory Board and curator of the Future Forum Stage, presented the content guidelines for the stage programme. The focus is consistently on future topics that are crucial for the industry:

“Companies that engage with the future are more successful. We know this from empirical analysis.” Accordingly, the Future Forum will focus specifically on topics such as artificial intelligence, autonomous mobility, mobility-as-a-service, next-generation mobility, sustainable tourism, transformation and new drive and energy landscapes.

He particularly emphasised the importance of new mobility concepts: ‘We must prepare ourselves for how mobility – and bus mobility in particular – will develop in the future.’

Strategic outlook until 2040: The bus as a central component of integrated mobility

Maximilian Rohs, Director of Infrastructure & Mobility at PwC Germany, focused on the long-term development of bus mobility in Germany and Europe. In his view, buses will play a central role in integrated mobility systems in the future – especially in conjunction with new mobility services, digital platforms and changing mobility needs.

‘Buses will play a very central role,’ emphasised Rohs with regard to the future of public transport. At the same time, he strategically classified current industry trends and outlined prospects for companies, cities and regions up to 2040.

Roadshow as a kick-off for the BUS2BUS 2026

The roadshow highlighted how closely technological developments, political framework conditions and economic realities are linked in the bus industry. At the same time, it highlighted the role of buses as a flexible, efficient and sustainable mode of transport in future mobility systems.

With its expanded concept, the Bus2Bus 2026 will position itself more clearly than ever as a driving force for sustainable and future-proof bus mobility. Programmatic highlights will include alternative drive systems, AI, skills shortages and more.
