Busworld 2023 with many new exhibitors

From 7 to 12 October 2023, the 26th edition of Busworld, the world’s largest trade fair for buses and coaches, will take place at the exhibition centre in Brussels. The entire spectrum will be on display, from mini buses to (double) articulated buses and with all types of drive, from diesel buses (today usually as hybrids) to battery-electric buses and hydrogen buses.

Busworld” was founded in the 1950s in the Belgian city of Kortrijk under the name “Car et Bus”. Over the years, the city’s exhibition grounds became more and more too small, and the trade fair company built new halls. Nevertheless, in recent years exhibitors in Kortrijk also had to be satisfied with stands in tents. For understandable reasons, the trade fair company did not want to build more halls, because they would only have been needed for a few days every two years for Busworld.

So the 2019 bus fair moved to the much larger exhibition centre in Brussels. After Busworld 2021 had to be cancelled due to Corona, it will now take place in Brussels for the second time in October 2023.

And the organisers of Busworld have announced that, in addition to the well-known exhibitors, eleven bus manufacturers will be showing their buses in Brussels for the first time this year.

These are (in alphabetical order):

Ermisbus Greece

Gelushi Egypt

Habas Turkey

Ikarus Hungary

JBM India

Quantron Germany

Rampini Italy

Skoda Czech Republic

Steyr Austria

TAM Slovenia

VagBus Romania

Among these manufacturers are also some that were present at the German IAA in the past – for example TAM – but had become quiet. A Rampini could be seen on the MAN stand years ago (MAN Alé). But there are also names that are completely new in Europe. Or did you already know Ermisbus, Gelushi, Habas or VagBus?

The bus market is visibly developing, and above all very intensively. This year’s Busworld promises to be very diverse and interesting – and therefore exciting. There are certainly still a few exhibition spaces available!

European ZEB Conference

For the first time, the European ZEB Conference will coincide with Busworld Europe, after a series of previous editions taking place in Paris (2021), Online (2020), in Cologne (2018) and in London (2016). The 5th edition of the European ZEB Conference is expecting 450 attendees from the zero emission bus and coach sector.

New in this edition will not only be the collaboration between Busworld Foundation and ZEB, but also the special attention for zero emission long distance coaches.

Busworld Digital Awards

Since digitalisation plays an increasingly significant role in and around buses and coaches, it made sense to create a new type of Busworld Awards, focusing on digital solutions. Next to the existing Vehicle Awards that will continue like before, a separate jury will judge the participations of the digital exhibitors.

There have always been world premieres at Busworld: in 2015, the cooperation between the Scottish bus builder Alexander Dennis and BYD from China presented the world’s first electric double-decker. The vehicle is now in daily use in London | © Christian Marquordt
