Baselland Transport AG (BLT) operates public transport in the canton of Baselland – its metre-gauge interurban tram lines are closely linked to the BVB urban tram network. To replace its fleet of older Schindler Waggon/Siemens articulated railcars from 1978-81, BLT ordered 25 seven-section low-floor articulated tramcars of the TINA type from manufacturer Stadler, most of which have now been delivered. After various tests and adjustments, they have been in passenger service for exactly one year. Unwanted noise from the bogies led to improvements by the manufacturer, for which a package of measures was developed and is being implemented.

A total of 23 eight-axle Be 4/8 articulated trams with retrofitted low-floor sections, also known as ‘sedan chairs’, and approximatly 10 six-axle Be 4/6 trams will be delivered to the Ukrainian transport company Electrotrans in Lviv by the end of 2025, after a previously envisaged delivery to Belgrade did not take place. Numerous old Basel trams have been put into service there in recent years, but now the Serbian capital wants to focus on new vehicles. In Lviv, the ‘sedan chairs’ will once again run on the network, while the Be 4/6 trams will be used for driver training, as service vehicles or for spare parts. Some 20 of the Schindler trams will be or have been recycled, 2 more will go to the Thüringerwaldbahn in Gotha, and 3 will remain in Basel as museum and event trams.
Currently, the Be 4/8 and Be 4/6 are generally only in service on lines 11E and 17 at BLT from Monday to Friday, and this is expected to continue only until the end of the year.
