Metro Madrid proudly presents the design of the future driverless metro trains for the existing line 6: A 1:1 model of the head end of the new trains, a so-called ‘mock up’, can be seen for a month in the central Plaza de Colón.

CAF won the contract to supply 40 six-car trains for the Spanish capital’s large-profile network – more info about the contract is available HERE. They offer a total capacity of up to 1,385 passengers, 165 of whom are seated. The maximum speed is 110 km/h, around 1/3 more than the previous units.

The new trains are equipped for fully automatic operation in accordance with automation level 4 (GoA4). Circular line 6 is being extensively rebuilt for this purpose, with new signalling technology and redesign of all platforms. It will be interrupted in stages on sections and operated by rail replacement services. With 110 million users in 2023, the 23.5 km long ring line with 28 stations is the busiest line in the entire network.
