Design unveiled – the new tram for Tours

Spanish company CAF will supply 19 seven-car low-floor trams from its URBOS series for the second line (Ligne 2) currently under construction in Tours. It will run from La Riche to Chambray-lès-Tours, as we reported HERE. Now the manufacturer and operator are presenting the new vehicle design – it is based in no small part on the Alstom trams delivered for the opening of the new system in 2013, which also have a very distinctive appearance.

Each of CAF’s future new trams will be around 42 metres long, barrier-free and able to carry up to 280 passengers, 76 of whom will be seated. The trams will run entirely without overhead lines on a 2 km section of track in the historic city centre (between Tours station and Place Choiseul) thanks to integrated energy storage systems on board. The new trams will be produced at the French CAF factory in Bagnères-de-Bigorre. Commissioning is planned for 2028, with delivery starting as early as 2027.
