Hyundai Rotem delivers first light rail vehicle for Edmonton

Hyundai Rotem has delivered the first of 46 light rail vehicles (LRVs) ordered for the Valley Line West project in Edmonton, Canada. The seven-section low-floor tram, which arrived on 1 August 2025, is part of a 158 million Canadian dollar contract signed in 2021 and marks the South Korean company’s entry into the North American tram market. The entire delivery is scheduled to be completed by 2027.

The bi-directional low-floor tramcars can reach speeds of up to 80 km/h and are designed for temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius. The entire delivery is scheduled to be completed by 2027.
