Koblenz: Four Mercedes Sprinter City 75 on two new lines

© Mercedes Benz

On 13 December 2020, Koblenzer Verkehrsbetriebe GmbH (KOVEB) will open two new tangential bus lines numbered 26 and 29, both on the right bank of the Rhine. As the route will be along some narrow and steep streets, KOVEB has decided to operate the new lines with “minibuses”.

Mercedes-Benz is the winner of the corresponding tender process and has supplied its “Sprinter City 75” model built at the Dortmund plant. The four minubues were handed over to KOVEB on 9 October, but will be on dirver traing and testing until 13 December.

The vehicles are 8,500 mm long and 2,080 mm wide and have a wheelbase of 5,100 mm. Immediately behind the front axle there is a low-floor area with a double-wide outer swing door, behind the rear axle there is a simple door. The “little ones” can carry a respectable 34 passengers, 12 of which find a seat in the area behind the low-floor platform. There are two more seats on the platform, and five folding seats are also fitted here. The space available is rounded off by 15 standing room. Two wheelchairs can be transported on the platform, and so that they can get on the bus, there is of course a fold-out ramp at the wide door here.
