The second volume in the three-volume series of albums on London’s underground railways has now been published, depicting the stations and entrances to four of the seven Tube lines. This is also not one of the publisher’s classic atlases, so there are two double-page maps here, as well as some schematic line overviews. In bilingual German/English, the individual station facilities are shown both ‘above’ and ‘below’ the ground in many good illustrations and are also described with their respective special features. The shape of the tunnels, which also gives them their name, is characterised by their tubular form due to the shape of the tunnel construction. Anyone interested in the infrastructure of London’s huge underground railway network will be well served by the two volumes published so far and the one still to come on the remaining three Tube lines. Schwandl’s atlas ‘U-Bahn, S-Bahn und Tram in London’ is a good complement as a guide for traveller.
