Mit der Kirnitzschtalbahn in den Nationalpark Sächsische Schweiz

In recent years, the author has self-published numerous works on topics related to railway history, primarily in the former GDR. The latest brochure deals with the tramway from Bad Schandau to Kirnitzschtal in ‘Saxon Switzerland’ (Sächsische Schweiz). Although it is mainly used for excursion traffic, it is a normal means of transport and, apart from Naumburg, is the last operator to still use exclusively two-axle vehicles. The focus of the presentation is on current operations, which are documented with numerous high-quality colour photographs. The impressive fleet of historic vehicles, which is remarkable for an operation of this size, is also given due attention. As the brochure covers not only the tramway itself but also the sights along the route, it also serves as a useful travel guide for a visit to the railway, which is always highly recommended.

The history and development of the tramway in earlier years is also described in great detail and documented with numerous photos and other documents. Unfortunately, the small tramway was not spared various strokes of fate, repeatedly narrowly avoiding closure during the GDR era, and has only been able to survive to the present day thanks to the commitment of its staff and tram enthusiasts. All the vehicles that have been in service over the years are also documented in detail. The result is a simple but well-designed brochure that covers all aspects of tram operation and therefore belongs in the bookcase of any tram enthusiast.
