The mock-up of the future TramTrain model of the Stadler Citylink model for the regions of Karlsruhe, Saarbrücken, Neckar-Alb, Oberösterreich (Upper Austria) and Salzburg was presented to the public. The managing directors of the transport companies and politicians from the regions unveiled the 1:1 model of the VDV TramTrains together with the manufacturer Stadler in Karlsruhe West.

The vehicles are produced by Stadler in Valencia, Spain. This is the location of the rail vehicle manufacturer, which specialises in the development and production of TramTrains, among other things. Stadler won the Europe-wide tender at the beginning of 2022.

The Saarbahn will receive the first four trams as pre-series run in 2024. These will then be tested in real operation and enter the approval process. Subsequently, all other trams will be approved according to the ‚conformity principle‘, which should significantly accelerate the approval process overall.

So far, 246 vehicles have been firmly ordered by participating authorities, and options agreed upon for a further 258. 75 (+73 as options) go to Albtal-Verkehrsgesellschaft, 75(+52) to VBK Karlsruhe, 28 (+21) to Saarbahn, 20 (+50) to Oberösterreich (Upper Austria), 20 (+5) to Salzburg and 30 (+57) to Regional-Stadtbahn Neckar-Alb Projektgesellschaft. The exact distribution and technical details of the different variants were last presented here: https://www.urban-transport-magazine.com/en/the-market-overview-for-tram-light-rail-and-metro-vehicles-in-germany/
