Munich’s public transport operator, MVG (Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft), is testing new vehicles for its bus fleet. As part of its efforts to adapt the bus network more closely to passenger demand, MVG is evaluating the use of smaller buses.
Over the coming weeks, three electric midibuses will enter regular passenger service to gather operational experience under real-world conditions: the Wisdom Motor Sigma 8, the Wrightbus WB9, and the Solaris Urbino 9 LE electric.
Vehicles in this category are typically between 8 and 10 metres long and can accommodate around 50 to 60 passengers. They are particularly well suited to serving residential areas where streets are narrow and passenger demand does not justify the use of full-size buses.
The first vehicle to be deployed was the Wisdom Motor Sigma 8, supplied by the manufacturer’s German partner Jebsen & Jessen. It will operate as an additional bus on Route 135 on 14 and 16 July. The Wrightbus WB9 and the Solaris Urbino 9 LE electric are expected to be trialled during the second half of August.
In addition, the Scania Fencer F18, an 18-metre battery-electric articulated bus, will be undergoing trial operations during the final week of July.
