Early February 2025 saw the roll out the first of 40 new low-floor three-section trams for Zagreb by local manufacturer KONČAR Group. These single-directional tramcars are 20.8m long, have four double-wide entrance doors and offer a total passenger capacity of 115.

Zagreb’s municipal public transport operator ZET signed a contract for 20 of these vehicles worth €38 million in June 2023. Delivery has to be completed by December 2025. A second contract for an additional 20 trams – worth nearly €40 million – was signed in September 2024.

The country’s second tramway system in Osijek – metre-gauge as in Zagreb – received the first of ten similar vehicles of the TMK 2500 model in early March 2025. These are the first new tramcars for the small system in 43 years! The contract might be extended by another ten vehicles (agreed as an option).

The order is part of the extensive mid-term upgrade programme of Osijek’s tram infrastructure, launched in spring 2022 which includes modernization of the tracks, electric supply and station design, among others. The first tram no. 2501 has already started testing on the network this month and is expected to enter passenger service before the summer.
