Sweden’s only trolleybus line has been operating in the small town of Landskrona in the South of the country since 2003, on a 3.4 km route between the railway station and the city centre. The upcoming renewal of the fleet of five Solaris Trollino trolleybuses built between 2003 and 2013 (one of which is already used as spare parts donor) prompted discussions about the continued existence of the small system. In 2023, the regional transport authority Skånetrafiken announced the continuation of trolleybus operations and awarded operation of the local public transport services to Keolis Group from December 2024. Keolis will receive three new vehicles for this and will keep the newest, now 11-year-old trolleybus 6994 (Solaris/Škoda Trollino III) in its fleet.
The first of the three newly ordered Solaris/Škoda Trollino IVs has now been completed and is undergoing test runs on the public transport network in Plzeň (Czech Republic). It has sufficiently powerful traction batteries for longer trips off the existing overhead line.
The three new battery trolleybuses will be numbered 1891 to 1893.
