Electric buses from Irizar e-mobility are being deployed in the Netherlands for the first time, operated by Arriva Personenvervoer Netherlands. Eighteen buses with a length of 12 metres are planned, while the remaining 21 vehicles are 18-metre articulated buses, all of the Irizar ie tram type.

Last year, Arriva was also selected as the operator for the extensive bus network in the Oost-Brabant region and is purchasing new electric buses for this purpose. Their deployment is planned on a newly established BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) line with long sections running on clearly marked dedicated lanes, as well as on additional routes radiating from the two cities of Tilburg and ’s-Hertogenbosch. The new vehicles are scheduled to enter service in the Netherlands at the end of 2026.

These vehicles will be equipped with Irizar batteries with a capacity of over 615 kWh and will be charged at the depots via a Combo-2 charging system. Both an electric and a manual ramp are provided to ensure improved accessibility. In addition, the operator has opted for seats in an intercity design, offering passengers a higher level of comfort.

A special feature is the driver’s seat, which includes personalised position memory, allowing the seat configuration to be automatically adjusted to each individual driver, thereby improving ergonomics and comfort during operation.

In recent months, Irizar e-mobility has secured significant orders, including from Switzerland, Poland, Germany and the United Kingdom, alongside ongoing orders from various cities in its home market of Spain.
