On the campus of the Hanover University of Technology in Garbsen, an autonomous EZ 10 minibus of the French manufacturer EasyMile has been on the road since 22 August on the two-kilometre-long line 404 between the Garbsen light rail station and Schönebecker Allee. The use of the “autonomous” little one is planned until November for the time being.

The bus has the registration number “H-RH 444”. It offers six seats – three backwards behind the front window and three forwards in front of the rear window. Together with six standing places, it can therefore carry 12 passengers.

For safety reasons, it is only allowed to travel at a maximum speed of 15 km/h, although EasyMile emphasised years ago that the little one could also travel at 40 km/h. Nor is the bus left to drive all by itself – for safety reasons, an “operator” is also on board, who can intervene via a console. He can start the bus, steer it, brake it, open and close the double-wide door, honk the horn and ring the bell … There is only one thing he cannot do: sit in the driver’s seat. There is no such thing in the EZ 10 because, all in all, it is supposed to be on the road without a driver.
