Škoda presents its new trolleybus model T’CITY

A brand new 12-metre trolleybus model baptised T´CITY Škoda is on test at the in the streets of Plzen/Pilsen. The novelty among Škoda Group products will pass a series of tests in the West-Bohemian metropolis in order to accomplish the type and homologation tests. The vehicle is equipped with traction batteries and will offer to transport providers higher flexibility. In the future, Škoda Group will also offer a vehicle without a battery.

New product of Škoda portfolio was developed in cooperation with sister company Temsa – also part of the Cezech PPF Group. TEMSA produced the new generation body of the trolleybus while Škoda added the traction equipment that is the heart of new product. Test drives includes verification of driving characteristics, safety of the vehicle and also software features. First passengers will have the opportunity to ride with the new bus during the summer holidays in the streets of Pilsen. This new type of trolleybus is beside equipped by air conditioning to provide higher comfort to passengers, and a modern information and boarding system is also included as a standard.

A first order for the new model has already been received from the Czech city of Ostrava, 18 T’CITY will be delivered there to replace older trolleybuses. Bodywork of the new model is very similar to the E’CITY batterie-electric bus model introduced for the first by Škoda last year with 14 such vehicles already operating in the capital city Prague, we reported here:

Škoda had produced more than 14,500 trolleybuses since 1936 however, production of complete vehicles ceased in 2002/3 with Škoda concentrating on the production of electrical equipment for trolleybuses.
