Steigen Sie ein! 105 Jahre Linienbusverkehr der Dortmunder Verkehrsbetriebe

Get on board! 105 years of public bus services in Dortmund

— Volume 1 – Operational history / Volume 2 – Vehicles and routes —

Dortmund specialist author Stefan Limburg has published a comprehensive work on the development of bus transport in his home city, which contains many interesting details and is also easy to read. The two volumes, which cover 105 years of bus and trolleybus transport in Dortmund, are self-published with the support of the local transport company DSW21, among others. Operational aspects, the history of the routes and, of course, the vehicles used are described in detail and with many interesting facts. There is an overview table of each Dortmund bus model, which includes each individual vehicle and also mentions its whereabouts after it was decommissioned by the municipal utilities. Even the fate of the vehicles after they were sold to mostly private companies is taken into account.

Special attention is paid to topics such as trolleybuses and articulated buses – Dortmund was one of the pioneers with the first ever articulated bus for urban transport in post-war Germany! And last but not least, the buses used by subcontractors in Dortmund’s city transport system and their operators are all listed and presented in detail with tables and photos

All chapters are extensively illustrated, the reproduction quality of the photos is very good throughout, as is the quality of the book as a whole. The two books are highly recommended for anyone interested in Dortmund city transport and, of course, buses in general.
