The first battery-powered trolleybus from Turkish manufacturer Bozankaya, model SNG 12T, is being prepared for the approval process in Prague. Seventy of these twelve-metre-long vehicles are to be used in the Czech capital, where they will be needed by the municipal transport company DPP for bus routes that are to be electrified.
The first vehicle with electrical equipment from Medcom arrived at the Klíčov depot of Prague Public Transport on 16 June 2025. As a pre-production vehicle, it is not yet part of the overall order, but is being used for type approval of this model in the Czech Republic in accordance with the conditions set by the Czech Railway Authority. Commissioning is planned for the end of June/beginning of July. In the first phase, the vehicle must cover 10,000 km without passengers on Prague’s trolleybus lines.
DPP ordered the first seven vehicles in February under a framework agreement for up to 70 SNG 12T battery trolleybuses, with a further 23 called off at the end of March 2025. All vehicles are expected to be in service on the newly electrified existing bus lines from spring 2026 – these are the future lines 51 (currently bus line 131), 52 (currently bus 137) and 53 (currently bus 176). At least six lines in Prague are to be electrified in this way in the coming years.
