The IAA Transportation took place this year from 17 to 22 September 2024 at the exhibition grounds in Hanover. There were many interesting innovations and product developments in the field of commercial vehicles on display, albeit with a very clear focus on freight transport.

Nevertheless, there were also some interesting exhibits in the field of local passenger transport, and as a German manufacturer, Daimler Buses also presented the completely new, shorter fully electric bus model, the eCitaro K, which had already been awaited.

Solaris showed its Urbino 18 hydrogen hydrogen articulated hydrogen bus model, which was awarded the title ‘Bus of the Year 2025’, and the 2,000th Lion’s City E made its rounds in the outdoor area. Buses from the manufacturers Zhongtong, Higerbus, Boloré Bluebus, HBS AlfaCity, Asiastar and IVECO were also represented at the trade fair.

The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) was very satisfied with the outcome of this year’s IAA Transportation, with around 145,000 visitors, 1,700 exhibitors and 145 world premières.

VDA President Hildegard Müller emphasised: ‘The IAA TRANSPORTATION has impressively demonstrated that our industry is actively driving the change towards climate-neutral and digital solutions with investments and innovations, that we have already developed the products for the many challenges and brought them to series maturity.’

At the same time, it became clear in Hanover: ‘The biggest obstacle to a rapid, successful and widespread ramp-up of climate-neutral drives is the necessary infrastructure – this applies in particular to the charging infrastructure and the advance expansion of the network, as well as to hydrogen refuelling stations. All relevant stakeholders must now be held accountable and a clear roadmap with regular monitoring and corresponding opportunities for improvement must be established. In order to make decisive progress here, Berlin and Brussels must now develop an infrastructure offensive and implement it as quickly as possible.’

The next IAA TRANSPORTATION will take place in Hanover from 15 to 20 September 2026.
