ÜSTRA relies on PSI’s charging management system

ÜSTRA Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe AG has commissioned PSI Transcom GmbH with the delivery of the PSIsmartcharging load and charging management system. This will ensure the availability of the electric buses and help to minimise energy costs and optimise maintenance and fault processing. PSI is thus playing a key role in helping ÜSTRA achieve its goal of operating all local transport in the region exclusively emission-free by 2035.

The depots and “en route charging points” equipped with modern charging infrastructure as part of ÜSTRA’s electric bus campaign, which began in 2020, will be efficiently monitored and controlled with PSIsmartcharging in future. The system ensures the availability of electric vehicles and, if necessary, postpones charging processes or reduces the charging power to avoid bottlenecks in the energy supply. Charging processes are controlled in a cell-friendly manner to ensure a long battery life. The charging target is set by the user in the depot management system and is automatically transferred to the system.

PSIsmartcharging can be expanded to include additional depots and charging points and can be connected to the charging technology of various suppliers. It also has interfaces to third-party systems such as depot management or ITCS systems and supports access to vehicle data in accordance with VDV interface 261. The system structure fulfils all the necessary requirements for KRITIS-compliant operation.

ÜSTRA operates the light rail system and the city bus network in the Hannover region. With 142.8 million passengers in 2022, it is the leading local transport provider in Lower Saxony.

The PSI Group develops software products to optimise the flow of energy and materials for utilities and industry. As an independent software manufacturer with over 2,300 employees, PSI has been the technology leader for process control systems since 1969, which ensure sustainable energy supply, mobility and production by combining AI methods with industrially proven optimisation processes. The innovative industry products can be operated by customers themselves or in the cloud.
