Frankfurt’s popular Ebbelwei Express is back: after a break of more than 1 ½ years, the historic trams returned to scheduled service on the tram network at noon on 6 November 2021. They offer a 70-minute city tour with food and beverage service on board along the way – including Frankfurt’s famous “Ebbelwei” (apple wine). Although the consequences of the pandemic are still not entirely foreseeable, the VGF Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt am Main decided to resume the service, following the example of other cities with historic tram services.

On Saturdays and Sundays, there are 10 departures every 35 minutes on the route from the Zoo via the Altstadtstrecke – Hauptbahnhof – Messe/Festhalle – Hauptbahnhof – Sachsenhausen – Südbahnhof – Lokalbahnhof back to the loop at the Zoo. Only two-axle cars of the so-called “Verbandstyp” from the post-war period are used: Four tramcars no. 105-108, built by Credé in 1954, and the six trailers 1703, 1705, 1706, 1712, 1723 and 1724 (Fuchs, built in 1954/55) are available for the service.
