With Bochum-Gelsenkirchener Straßenbahn’s (BoGeStra) network reorganisation tram operation on the longer single-track section of the line 310 between Unterstrasse and Papenholz came to an end. On 15 December 2019, the line was re-routed through the more densely populated district of Bochum-Langendreer. Since the new Langendreer Markt – Papenholz section will only be completed in about a year, there is bus substitution service in place between Langendreer and Witten-Crengeldanz. On the outer section of the route, which is still partly single-track through Witten city centre and further to Heven Dorf, a shuttle service with the few remaining M6 cars is set up. Track on the scenic route from Crengeldanz via Papenholz to Unterstraße serves is used for daily transfer of the shuttle trams to access the depot at the BoGeStra metre gauge network.
The changes in the tram line network are shown here again in the overview:
305 (new): Höntrop – Langendreer Bahnhof (overlap with lines 302 and 310)
309 (new): Langendreer Bahnhof – Witten – Heven Dorf
310: new track via Langendreer, closure of section Unterstraße – Papenholz, new track Langendreer Markt – Papenholz
316 (new): Bochum-Gerthe, Heinrichstraße – Bochum-Hamme (rush hour to Wanne-Eickel), overlap with lines 306 and 308/318
