Rhein-Ruhr: VRR provides funding for 120 battery electric buses and infrastructure

The Verkehrsverbund Rhein – Ruhr (VRR) is funding six electric bus transport projects at member companies with 74.2 million euros. This will support the purchase of 120 buses as well as infrastructure projects.

Specifically, this involves the following companies and the following measures:

  • NEW Mönchengladbach: Purchase of 60 battery electric buses in 2024 to 2026
  • NEW Viersen: Purchase of 6 electric 12-metre e-buses
  • NEW Viersen: Installation of required charging infrastructure
  • NIAG Moers: Installation of an “outdoor charging station”
  • SWK Krefeld: Installation of an electrolyser for the hydrogen refuelling station. Ten Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogens have been ordered, the first of which is to be delivered at the end of 2024, the rest by May 2025
  • SR Remscheid: 54 electric buses, 12 articulated and 42 solo e-busess are being subsidised. Charging and workshop infrastructure are also subsidised.
