Alexander Dennis from Larbert, Scotland, one of the largest independent bus builders in this world and a subsidiary of the Canadian “New Flyer” group, reports a major order intake: The British public transport operator Stagecoach has ordered 200 low-emission double-deckers of the type “Enviro 400”.

Stagecoach is now the second largest bus company in Great Britain. Its nucleus is a caravan rental company (!) founded as recently as 1976. When the liberal “Transport Act” came into force in 1980, the company entered the bus business with a long-distance line from Dundee to London. Successfully, as you can see, Stagecoach is now the second largest company in the British bus market.

The 200 new double-deckers are to be delivered in the course of 2023. And will be allocated to depots across England, ranging from Torquay in the South West to Newcastle upon Tyne in the North East. The investment means that Stagecoach will remove older buses from its fleet, benefitting local air quality.

Sam Greer, Engineering Director for Stagecoach, said: “We are proud of the continued investment we are making to our fleet with the largest single order for new buses in the UK this year. This really shows our commitment to the future prosperity of our communities and to our people who can all benefit from the cleaner transport and a growing bus sector.
