Today, 4 June 2023, the UITP (Union Internationale des Transports Publics) officially opened the UITP Global Public Transport Summit in Barcelona, Spain. More than 15,000 professional participants are expected during the four days of the event. In addition to countless lectures and presentations, there will also be an extensive supporting programme, e.g. external visits and, of course, the extensive, almost trade fair-like exhibition of manufacturers of a wide range of products and services in the field of public transport.

Barcelona’s Mayor Ada Colau Ballano, key note speaker and renowned urban transport expert Professor Mariana Mazzucat, UITP President Khalid Alhogail and UITP Secretary General Mohamed Mezghani were among the prominent speakers at the opening event. The newly elected UITP President, Reneé Amilcar, OC Transpo’s General Manager Transit Services from Ottawa in Canada gave a short presentation to the participants. She was voted into office during the annual UITP General Assembly, which took place directly before the Summit kicked off in Barcelona. Her term will start directly after the UITP Summit.
