Würzburger Versorgungs- und Verkehrs-GmbH (WVV) added five electric buses to its fleet at the end of June. Three 12-metre e-buses and for the first time two articulated e-buses from the manufacturer MAN replace an equal number of diesel buses on the city bus routes. After an official presentation to the press the new vehicles started passenger service 27 September 2023.

So far, only two buses in the Würzburg city area have been running electrically. The two electric Solaris Urbino 12 electric have been in service since July 2020. The seven e-buses are pure depot chargers – they are recharged at night in the Heuchelhof depot.

By around 2035, the entire WVV fleet of around 90 diesel buses is to be replaced by e-buses. As a next step, another five e-buses are expected in February 2024. Another six e-buses are also in the procurement planning stage – with 18 vehicles, around 20 percent of the fleet will be purely electric.
