Madrid: Major contract completed and another 100 e-buses ordered

The Polish manufacturer Solaris Bus & Coach has just successfully completed the delivery of 250 CNG buses and 60 electric buses to Empresa Municipal de Transporte – EMT – the municipal public transport operator of the Spanish capital Madrid. The gas buses have been delivered in tranches since 2021, the e-buses entered service in 2023. All 310 buses are of the well-proven Urbino 12 model. The electric buses are charged overnight at the depot via inverted roof-mounted pantographs.

In the meantime, EMT has ordered another 100 electric buses: In the first half of 2024, Solaris will deliver another 30 12-metre buses. In addition, 20 electric midi buses will go to Madrid: the Solaris Urbino 9 LE electric model, which will be part of EMT’s fleet for the first time.

Also new to the varied model range of Madrid’s urban transport company will be 50 electric buses from the manufacturer consortium BYD/Castrosua. The NELEC model was presented at the UITP Global Summit in Barcelona in the summer of 2023 – it is the first major series order for this model.
