As of today, the fourth metro line of the ATM in Milan finally offers a direct connection to the rest of the metro network: The extension by two stations from Dateo to San Babila went into operation. Here, there is the possibility of transferring to the M1 metro line. From the first section of the M4 from Dateo to Linate Airport, which opened on 26 November 2022, it was previously only possible to connect to the S-Bahn at Dateo and Staz. Forlanini stations to change to the state railway’s suburban trains. The new network looks like this: https://www.urbanrail.net/eu/it/mil/milano.htm .

The four-car trains from Hitachi Rail in Reggio di Calabria run fully automatically without drivers, and there are platform doors at all stops. The manufacturer is to deliver 47 of these trains by the time the line is fully operational.

The M4 is being further extended and will reach San Cristoforo after another 13 stations. It will then be 15 km long in total. The opening is expected here in October 2024, provided there are no delays.
