The small trolleybus operation in the Czech spa town of Mariánské Lázně (14,000 inhabitants) will receive 8 new trolleybuses. As a result, the plan to convert the 10.5 km system to battery bus operation has been turned down. Subsidies from a regional infrastructure funds cover more than 80% of the financing of the renewal.
The new trolleybuses are Škoda Electric’s 30Tr model, the total price is CZK 100.64 million (ca. 3,9 million EUR). The body of the buses will be sub-supplied by SOR Libchava. The buses will be fitted with a traction battery to allow for catenary-free operation. Already today, a 0.7 km section of the network is operated by auxiliary diesel motor. Delivery time for the new buses is 360 days from the date of signing the contract. All existing Mariánské Lázně’s trolleybuses of Skoda’s 24 Tr model are to be sold. The only remaining 14 Tr is already out of service for several weeks.
