Two new tram lines in Nuremberg

VAG Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft Nürnberg is changing its route network and introducing two new tram lines with the timetable change on Sunday, 10 December 2023: The introduction of the new tram lines 10 (Dutzendteich – Am Wegfeld) and 11 (Gibitzenhof – Tiergarten) will provide new, attractive direct connections and more frequent services. By overlapping with the existing lines 4, 5 and 6, a tram will run every five instead of ten minutes on large parts of the tram network during the day and every ten instead of every 20 minutes in the evening and at weekends.

“The introduction of tram lines 10 and 11 marks the first step in the 2030 public transport package of measures adopted in January 2021,” said Lord Mayor Marcus König. “With the extension of tram line 7 to the Stadtparkschleife, the closure of the gap in Minervastrasse and the extension to the new district of Lichtenreuth, further improvements are on the horizon in the coming years,” said Mayor and VAG Supervisory Board Chairman Christian Vogel, providing an outlook.

New generation of trams in operation

VAG has also procured additional vehicles to strengthen the service: since the beginning of the year, more trams of the new Siemens Avenio vehicle type have been travelling the network. Siemens Mobility is supplying 26 of these four-section low-floor vehicles to VAG.

VAG is offering free special trips on the new routes on Saturday, 9 December 2023 between around 2.30 p.m. and 6 p.m. so that anyone interested can get to know the new service. The exact timetable can be found at vag.de. The regular timetable will then start on Sunday, 10 December.
