On 19 December 2023, two Solaris Trollino 18 In-Motion-Charging trolleybuses were delivered to Barnimer Bus Gesellschaft (BBG) in Eberswalde. The two battery-electric articulated buses recharge their batteries while in operation under overhead contact lines and can therefore also serve sections of the route without overhead contact lines.

This makes sense in Eberswalde because, in addition to the two long-established trolleybus routes 861 and 862, it is planned to use them beyond the Brandenburgisches Viertel terminus in the direction of the Finow district as part of route 910 (Finowfurt – Südend), which is currently still served by diesel buses. The line will thus be converted to electric operation without the overhead wire system having to be extended to Finow. The existing 12 articulated trolleybuses from 2010-12 were also retrofitted with powerful traction batteries for this purpose, with the exception of no. 063, which was the “first overhead hybrid bus in Europe” (Battery trolleybus) and had already been equipped with traction batteries ex works.

In addition, there is a much larger order from nearby Berlin, where BVG will get 50 articulated battery buses from Solaris for delivery from the end of 2024. BVG currently has 106 rigid and 17 articulated Solaris Urbino electric buses in its fleet.
