After months of interruption, the new, first metro line in Ecuador’s capital Quito stared passenger service on 1 December 2023.
An official opening had already taken place on 21 December 2022 in the presence of numerous political celebrities. After several months of testing, passenger service began on 2 May 2023, initially limited to peak times. Technical problems and subsequent political disputes led to the interruption of scheduled services after just a few days, on 11 May 2023.
But now the metro is finally up and running! The line is 22 kilometres long and serves 15 stations from El Labrador to Quitumbe. 18 six-section metro trains had been supplied by Spanish manufacturer CAF and operate the service. Another route map can be found here:
