New ways of recruiting: the applicant tram

The problems of finding enough people who are interested in working as driver and/or service personnel in public transportation companies in Germany leads to more and more creative solutions. “Next stop: New employment contract!”, Munich’s operator MVG is sending a latest-generation Siemens Avenio tramway on its way to advertise the job in various locations on the network. Anyone interested in a job in the driving service of the metro, tramway or bus will be invited to come aboard the application tram – Bewerbertram called in German language. For example, the streetcar will be out and about in the city on Tuesday, July 5, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with other dates to follow. MVG employees from recruiting and the driving service will provide information about everyday working life, conduct interviews and, in the case of general suitability, give a provisional commitment while still on board, which still has to be confirmed by subsequent examination of the documents to be submitted and medical suitability. Registration is not required. MVG emphasises that it attaches great importance to good and reliable working conditions that are also compatible with private life – for example, through the “desired duty schedule”. By all means an interesting initiative!

We had already reported about a similar initiative of the RNV Rhein-Neckar Verkehr GmbH in Mannheim/Heidelberg here: https://www.urban-transport-magazine.com/en/job-speed-dating-in-public-transport/ .
